Psalms 16:8 My trust is in the Lord! Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
The entire world has been shaken by the CoVid-19 outbreak and the economic-social lock down. Though the light at the end of the “Corona tunnel” seems to be appearing, the worst of the economic impact is likely still on the horizon. Reports of the high number of suicides on the day of the stock market crash of 1929 are fiction. But in the years that followed, what is known as the Great Depression, the impact of the economic crash came to its peak as did the increase in suicides. This is not a declaration of what is to come, but merely a caution: a significant shock wave may still shake the world in the coming months or years.
Scripture has much advice on being prepared for times of calamity. The advice has less to do with having grain in the store room and more to do with a preparedness of mind and soul. Jesus said that those who put their trust in Him and follow His ways will endure the storms of life. David wrote these words:
Lord, You give me stability and prosperity. You make my future secure. It is as if I have been granted fertile fields or received a lovely piece of land. I will praise the Lord because He guides me. My trust is in the Lord. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. You are the reason my heart rejoices. In You, my life is safe. Psalms 16:5-9
David’s words are a declaration of his present and future status, “I will not be shaken.” If an economic shock wave comes, do not be dismayed; put your trust in the Lord. When the next crisis arises, do not let it shake you; put your trust in the Lord. No matter what happens to the kingdoms and powers of the world, let your feet remain on the solid Rock of Salvation. It is specifically in times of crisis that the difference between building on sand or rock will be evident. May our lives be examples of inner strength and godly wisdom because we have put our trust in our Lord!
