Micah 7:3 They are determined to be experts at doing evil. Government officials and judges take bribes: the elite people make demands and our leaders do whatever is necessary to satisfy those demands.
Some people contend that the Bible isn’t relevant, yet these thoughts from Micah seem like they were written for our times: calling a deceived and rebellious people to repentance.
Micah 7
Faithful men have disappeared from the land; there are no godly people left. Everyone waits in ambush to shed blood; they set traps to ensnare their own families. The best of them are like thorns; the most godly among them are more dangerous than a row of thorn bushes.
You posted watchmen so you could escape the day of judgement, but too late – that appointed day is at the door.
Do not rely on a friend, do not trust a companion. Don’t even share secrets with the one who lies in your arms. For a son calls his own father a fool, and a daughter disrespects her mother. A man’s enemies are the members of his very household.
Yet I will keep watching for the Lord; I will wait for the One who delivers me. My God will hear my cries of distress! There is no God like You! You forgive sin and pardon the rebellion of those who remain among Your people. Your anger does not remain forever: You delight in demonstrating steadfast love. You will once again have mercy on us. You will conquer our evil deeds. You will hurl our sins into the depths of the sea.
Today, as in the day of Babel, people have declared themselves to be gods, calling evil good, and bringing a curse upon the land. Yet, we are all full of rebellion: all of us have gone astray! God’s message is righteousness, judgment, repentance, and mercy! As we speak truth with wisdom, respect, and love – in all humility – we must cry to God as the prophets did. We must pray for judgement, discipline, and mercy! Only God can conquer our evil deeds, end the deception, and heal our land! Have mercy Oh Lord!
