Colossians 3:1-3 If you have been raised with Christ, keep your focus on the things above, not on the earth, for you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
One of the great mysteries in scripture is that the focus of heaven (the heart of God) is the welfare of humanity: “What is mankind that You even consider us?” It is beyond understanding that God’s love for the world is so great that He gave His Son for our salvation. In light of this, the phrase, “too heavenly minded to be any earthly good” is a misunderstanding of the mind of heaven. To be truly heavenly-minded is to be of utmost earthly good. In contrast, to be earthly-minded outside of God’s perspective is to focus on selfish desires or less important issues that distract us from the greatest earthly good.
Focus on heaven’s perspective. Put to death the earthly things in your nature: sexual immorality, impurity, shameful passion, evil desire, and greed. Discard anger, rage, malice, slander, and abusive speech. As well, stop lying to one another, since you have put on new clothes – made and renewed according to His image. So clothe yourselves, as His dear children, with a heart of mercy, humility, gentleness, and patience – bearing with one another and forgiving one another, just as the Lord has forgiven you. To these add love, which is the perfect bond. (From Colossians 3:2-14)
Perceive the mind of Christ (become heavenly minded) then apply that perspective of love to all of your thoughts, actions, and relationships on the earth (being of utmost earthly good). It is simple in theory – difficult in application. “Jesus, give me the divine grace to daily dress my mind and motives with Your heavenly perspective.”
