Courage

Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous! Do not fear or tremble before them, for the Lord your God is going with you.”

When we consider spiritual strengths and godly attributes, we quickly list patience, kindness, compassion, hope and faith. Courage and fearlessness are not usually found on the list, yet they are used, over and over, to describe those who believe in God.

We must be careful not to confuse self-confidence and arrogance with courage. Confidence in the Lord fills us with the unwavering courage needed to stand when others flee. Fear absolutely cripples God’s people from fulfilling their purpose in the world. Our faith in Christ alone allows us to overcome that fear. We must be people of courage and we must encourage one another to righteous words and deeds in the world.

“Our brothers have drained away our courage by describing people who are more numerous and taller than we are, and great cities whose defenses appear to be as high as heaven itself! Indeed, they said there are giants in that land.”
So I responded, “Do not be terrified of them! The Lord your God will go before you. He will fight for you just as He did in Egypt.”
