1 Peter 5:10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace – Who called you to His eternal glory in Christ – will Himself restore, strengthen, and establish you.
Peter was present when Jesus washed the feet of His disciples. It was an event that would forever change his life. Even as he protested Jesus’ act of servitude, he was shown humility and challenged to humbly receive ministry. It was only later that he would understand – it was God who had clothed Himself in humility, like a menial servant, and washed his feet. Later he would write:
Clothe yourselves with humility toward one another … humble yourselves under His mighty hand by casting all of your cares on Him – for He cares for you. … be strong in your faith, because your brothers and sisters throughout the world are suffering as well. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace will Himself restore, strengthen, and establish you. (1 Peter 5: 5-10 )
It is difficult to truly comprehend how the events of those last days with Jesus impacted Peter’s life. God had washed his feet just before going to the cross to die for Him. Humility was the example and directive he had received from Jesus. With that in mind, read the above verses again.
