Matthew 6:22-23 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eye is healthy your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is diseased, your whole body will be full of darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!”
This past week I read these verses to our older kids. I want to share a condensed version of our exchange. I asked them, “What does Jesus mean when He says, ‘If your eye is diseased…’? Is He speaking of needing glasses or something else?
Kids: He is saying that if you look at bad things you will be filled with darkness. But if you use your eyes to look at good things you will be filled with light.
Then I asked, “What do you think He means when He says, …If the light in you is darkness?”
Kids: We are the light of the world. That is our job as Christians. But if we, His light, are allowing our lives to be filled with darkness, then how can the darkness of the world be influenced? If the lanterns of Jesus are filled with darkness, then the darkness in the world remains very, very dark.
I felt their ideas on these verses were worth passing along.
